Permissions for directories in Uploads directory?

In my Uploads directory, I noticed that almost all of the subdirectories have permission, 777. 

I used the constants for for files and folder in the constants.php file, but the directories stayed the same. 

In the help guides, it says that files/folders that Invision Community needs to write to should be set at 777. 

Is there a requirement to have those directories set to 777? Or can I change them to 775?

It depends on your server. As long as those directories are writable by the software, then you will be fine regardless of what the actual permissions are.
