Cant set up profiles on one user type

For some reason the system is not allowing me to enable their profiles on one of my user groups.

I don't have this issue on any other type of group.

Have you perhaps switched off the ability for that user to actually see profiles at a module level? You would be unable to see settings that dont apply to a group, and that would be the case if there is no over all permissions.

I have added a new group at some point and not known to go back and change this.

There are lot of settings across the site.
