Test License, is that a thing?

Hello,

Does Invision Power Boards provide us license holders the ability to have a test license? We want to start building custom applications/plugins however we do not want to develop it on our main site. Someone mentioned to me that there is a way for license holders to have one license for a test server? Was wondering on where I can receive more information on that.
