So, the Ignore feature is extremely lacking in all of what should probably be essential functionality. Currently, by default, you can only ignore someone's: Forum Posts, Messages, Signatures, and Mentions. While that's great and all, it's an extremely simplistic view of an Ignore/Block function. All major platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc) have a way to Block and/or Ignore a user account. This hides all of that user's comments and contents and/or blocks them from viewing your content and profile. This is a major oversight in functionality that's missing in the IPS software. Not to mention that the Ignore function misses almost all of the other IPS default applications (Pages, Blogs, Gallery, Downloads, Calendar, Statuses, etc). The entire Ignore function feels like it was just slapped on to solve a singular issue (Forums) and never touched again. What an Ignore / Block function should be able to do:

  • Ignore all or some of a user's content.
  • Block a user from contacting you (Blocking messages and mentions).
  • Blocking a user from your profile and content.

Most users prefer Ease of Use with this. If you're blocking someone, you (usually) have a good reason to. The current ignore feature on IPS is basically bare-bones and doesn't really do a great job at what it does. It can definitely be better, and hopefully this can start that.

Evidence has been found that William Tell and his family were avid bowlers. However, all the Swiss league records were unfortunately destroyed in a fire, and we'll never know for whom the Tells bowled.

Fun fact; apparently if you block someone from sending you messages, they can actually still do it in conversations that are still open. Did anyone else know about this?

The whole system at this point is a joke on my site. Invision bark on about "Community Moderation" and giving tools to stop toxicity, and then we have this flaccid feature that does effectively nothing. As a member of staff now, @breatheheavy can you ask someone to take a look into this, please? Surely your community is still facing the problems that we all are.

Having now also played around on the v5 site, I can say that nothing with this system has improved or changed. It is still not possible to, for instance, block someone's gallery, blog, or pages content. I'm kind of disappointed in this, but not surprised anymore. I'll have to agree with @Tripp★ above and say that the current version(s) of the Ignore function aren't suitable for purpose in a community based platform.

It is worth noting, what you are asking for is actually a new feature, not a change to an existing feature. 'Block' and 'Ignore' arent one and the same. We have an 'ignore' feature, which hides content you may not wish to see from another user. That is very much a functional item, and is well used by our customer. The block feature you are looking for us to implement, simply isnt a feature at present, and I feel the 2 are being confused. They are not the same thing at all.

Ok, but it should still be possible then to ignore all of a user's content throughout the default apps, not just the forums, messages, and mentions. The fact that there isn't a parity of the ignore feature across all of the Invision in-house applications simply doesn't make sense. It should work for Pages databases, Gallery, Clubs started by that user, and Blogs, at the very least in addition to the other core applications.

OK, we are talking about 2 different things here. If there is "content" which is still visible after ignoring someone, then that would actually be a bug. Please let me know if that is the case with specific examples

Sure. Here's from the invision 5 site, as I don't currently have a community set up. Just test ignored a user chosen at random (Sorry Astro!)Could contain: Page, Text

Their content is still absolutely visible in Gallery:

Could contain: Art, Collage, Person, Face, Head, Business Card, Text, File, Night, Outdoors

Topics they started also behave weirdly, in that they can be seen if someone else has replied in them:

Could contain: Electronics, Mobile Phone, Phone, Text

Could contain: Electronics, Mobile Phone, Phone, Text

The posts behave as expected within the Topics, however. I'll get some help for a community I work with for showing this on the v4 platform when I can, but it's essentially the same. Don't believe the v5 site has test page databases available for use atm.

Could contain: Electronics, Mobile Phone, Phone, Nature, Night, Outdoors, Astronomy, Nebula, Outer Space

Could contain: Electronics, Mobile Phone, Phone, Person, Text

Could contain: Electronics, Mobile Phone, Phone, Text, Person

Please post any bugs for version 5 on the preview community in the bug tracker. What you are seeing there is a bug, not something you want as a new feature. Im not entirely sure what you mean on the second part of this, to be honest, as many items tehre you are posting arent the person you ignored. It will ignore 'only' their post, not anything else
