Adding hover to nav items (HTML Logic)

I have been having trouble with a custom request trying add hover to selected nav items.

Html logic to check the correct nav item

{{if request.path == ‘clubs’}}

There is something wrong with the tag request path or the urls need to be more friendly I’m told. 

Im clouds hosted. Support has directed me here anyone care to shed light?
