Posts with external links fail to post/update and timeout

Since updating to 4.4 (and 4.4.1 since), been having a problem on my forums where users can't create or update a post if it contains more than a few external links. The more of them there are the longer it takes to go through. If there are 4 or 5 external links in the post, it goes to timeout error after a long wait.

I've tried disabling all plugins and doing it from the default theme with no luck and none of the setting changes I've tried from admin cp have helped either.

Any ideas?

We don't "fetch" external links (except images in specific scenarios, i.e. when you have the image proxy enabled) so I'm unsure why this would be the case. I would recommend submitting a ticket.
