Auto PM for new members

I thought there was a plugin that will send PM to any new member after they sign up.

I can't find this anywhere. Can someone help?

I see this makes it possible to make a status update which I assume is done on the new members own profile. But how does this work when like in my case I cannot make status updates a default for new users?
