Sledge FTB Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Well, the title mostly covers it. We have noted that regular members can edit their own 'private messages' always and forever, without any notification showing that the message was editted. Actually, we have noted it a while ago, but we figured it would be resolved in a update. But it doesn't look that way anymore. We're running a pretty basic v4.1.19.4, but the issue is known by us for far over a year now. What we would have been expecting is at least a notification for the other contributors/readers. But actually we expected a member setting, if and for how long the member is allowed to change his message. Can anybody confirm our issue and shed a light if it is bug or a feature? Thanks
Sledge FTB Posted June 21, 2017 Author Posted June 21, 2017 For the record, we are aware of this 'bug' from december 2015 (v 4.1.4). We even committed it at the bug tracker, on this link (which is not longer valid) https://community.invisionpower.com/4bugtrack/active-reports/414-and-up-members-can-edit-already-sent-private-messages-r9491/ And I just checked on this forum/account .... same thing is going on here. In the first place, I can edit my already sent PM. And secondly, no record of that I altered my PM is showed to me, nor the receiver.

Sledge FTB Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 @Misi, would it be alright if I sent you a PM, so we can check it out?
Sledge FTB Posted June 29, 2017 Author Posted June 29, 2017 Thank you @Misi, I just dropped you this PM Quote Hey Misi, Thank you for letting me demonstrate this. I'll await your confirmation on this message and will change it after that. Greetz Sledge
Sledge FTB Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 Okay, I have to come clean ..... FAIL! I can't edit that PM anymore (and neither can I edit the one I talked about in the OP). But I've noticed I can't edit my previous post in this topic either. And there is a difference with our board. On our board, members can edit their posts within 5 minutes without any notification/footnote. After those 5 minutes they can still edit, but an auto footnote will be added to their post, stating that the post had been edited by the owner on that date and that time. That works as wanted & expected for us. However, apparently that same setting also implies for PMs. With the difference that there no footnote is added. And especially with the nature of PMs, that is not always a nice thing. I do have to check, but I think even if a admin/mod is involved in a PM (with use of the report button), it is not visible to him/her that the message has been edited.
