One email per day with all new content from that day

I just switched a few users to the notification setting of One email per day with all new content from that day, instead of A notification when new content is posted.

Method to use for content I follow automatically

• A notification when new content is posted
• One email per day with all new content from that day
• One email per week with all new content from that week

 

The system is still sending immediate notification emails when followed topics are replied to instead of grouping the replies into one daily email. My question is, is this setting for all future followed content and doesn't affect older followed content? Or is it just not working or some sort of task needs to run to change this?

Same problem with our forum, seems the setting "One email per day" makes no diferrence.
