Core Search reduction?

I have noticed my core search index in the database is 58mb for a 220 member 90,000 post community. Is that normal, and is there a way to reduce that to lessen the load/size of the database?

Yes this sounds normal, the search index is created by indexing the content on your site to help improve search, and not hamper your active tables performance etc. 

For 100k post, this sounds about right.
