New post column

Hey, everyone.

What I'm attempting to do is create a new input field for when creating a new topic. For example, users would have the ability to input something like a description that would be saved to that post. So far I've added the new column to the post sql table, but I'm a bit confused on how and where IPB saves all the fields when clicking 'submit topic'.

If anyone could share their wisdom on how I'd go about adding a new field when creating a topic, I'd be incredibly grateful.

If the example you provided is what you are exclusively trying to do.....

Not exactly a description. What I'm trying to do is add a field for a URL. I may be able to pull the code apart for that plugin, though.
