Performance for logged in users

My forum home page is set to forums.  Since upgrading to 4.0 (currently on 4.0.6.1) the home page is significantly slower for members who are logged in vs guests.  The exact same blocks are in use for both members and guests, however member access is significantly slower.  The only difference that I see is guests can't see the upcoming events but they get ads, otherwise both members and guests see the same thing.  

Any thoughts on where to look?

Depending on how your caching is configured, the entire homepage could be cached as a whole for guests, along with every other page on the site. That can't be the case for members.

I am running memcached with 120 seconds of cache for guests, so the question would be, how to speed up for members

​You would not want to enable cache for Members or someone would make a post and only 120s after they would see it. For guests that is not a problem.

Its much faster for Guests because they are seing a page fully cached in the Ram.
