Dave G Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I realize that 4.0 is only in RC status right now, and that the full batch of converters is likely planned for after a full release. However, I'm wondering if anybody has an "RC" or "beta" version of a converter I might be able to use to migrate data from an existing phpBB community. I'm working right now on the setup and configuration of things before I move everybody over to the new software. My goal is to get everything setup and configured, take the old site "offline", migrate the users/forums/posts, then bring the whole thing back online using the IPS software. I'm comfortable living in a beta world, and I fully understand what it means as far as possible issues. Does anybody have anything?
AndyF Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 If you wanted to try now you could simply 'convert' to 347 then upgrade that to IPS4, it should not take much longer. I imagine the converter for IPS4 will be appearing in the not too distant future anyway though.
Dave G Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 I considered that route, but I'm building out a whole new site based on IPS, leveraging Pages, Gallery, Blogs and the Forum. I'd like to get everything setup (other than the forum data of course), and then do a single cut-over including migrating the data. I figure it's going to take me a couple weekends to get everything setup, so hopefully the converter will make it's appearance before I'm ready. Though I won't turn down the opportunity to try out a beta version if there is one.
craigf136 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Converters aren't ready, the most recent and current converters are pretty stable and error free. IPS will recommend you upgrade to 3.4.7 first and then upgrade to V4. We'll sound like a broken record and everyone will say the same or similar but unfortunately at the moment it is the only way.
