HellaWicked Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Hello Michael, We're about to upgrade our board to 3.3.4 soon, but in the meantime, we're using 3.1.4 and this hook has stopped working for ESPN videos. Months ago when I first installed this hook, thing were working great. Just recently, however, I was informed by one of my members that the ESPN BBCode doesn't work with ESPN videos anymore. Can the cause be coming from ESPN? Perhaps they changed their video format or something? This isn't a crucial issue since we will be upgrading soon, but is this hook still working good for 3.3.4? Thanks ahead of time.
Michael Posted August 1, 2012 Author Posted August 1, 2012 Please provide the URL to a video this media tag isn't working for.
HellaWicked Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Please provide the URL to a video this media tag isn't working for. They didn't give me any specific ESPN video, but I went today and picked out a random ESPN video and I tried adding that video to a post reply, but nothing would show. I tried it in Chrome, Opera and Firefox.
Michael Posted August 1, 2012 Author Posted August 1, 2012 That's not a video, that's a story that has an embedded video player on it. A video that is usable with this media tag is one where the URL looks like this:http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=*** You'll most likely encounter these only on the actual ESPN video page.
HellaWicked Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Yes, I know that's a story, but I used that specific video in that story as a test and it wouldn't show.
Michael Posted August 1, 2012 Author Posted August 1, 2012 It doesn't show because it's a story, not a video. This media tag only works on URLs in the format I listed. Not sure how to better explain that...
HellaWicked Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Michael, you mention that videos can only show if the link looks like this:http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=***[/CODE] I tried a different video from the link you provided of ESPN videos, but the only two optional codes ESPN provides to use their videos are these two: [CODE] http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:8087856 and <script src="http://player.espn.com/player.js?&playerBrandingId=4ef8000cbaf34c1687a7d9a26fe0e89e&pcode=1kNG061cgaoolOncv54OAO1ceO-I&width=576&height=324&externalId=espn:8087856&thruParam_espn-ui[autoPlay]=false&thruParam_espn-ui[playRelatedExternally]=true"></script> But neither of those allow a video to show. Not sure where else to go to get the right codes on ESPN to share their videos. But like I said, no big deal, maybe it's because we're using 3.1.4 or something and will upgrade soon.
Michael Posted August 1, 2012 Author Posted August 1, 2012 You get the URLs from your browser's address bar, like every media tag.
HellaWicked Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 You get the URLs from your browser's address bar, like every media tag. Trust me Michael, I tried every link imaginable, but nothing shows.
RLPVT Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I have encountered the same thing maybe I can clarify this. So I went to add this link under the media tag: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:8251229 When I add it there is nothing the post goes blank. I have added this code. Here is what is under the BBD code settings in mine: Maybe i am missing something. Emplacement match:http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id={1}(|&*) Replacement HTML: <object width="384" height="216" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="ESPN_VIDEO" data="http://espn.go.com/videohub/player/embed.swf" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all"> <param name="movie" value="http://espn.go.com/videohub/player/embed.swf" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/> <param name="wmode" value="opaque"/> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/> <param name="allowNetworking" value="all"/> <param name="flashVars" value="id=$1"/> </object> Any thoughts? Thanks and I am on 3.1.4 as well.
Michael Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 As I said above, this media tag apparently doesn't work anymore. I'll go remove it now.
