August 23, 201113 yr There is no spell check tool in the current editor. Most modern browsers have already one inbuilt anyway.
August 23, 201113 yr As above, I always use the browser spellcheck - so much better than any built in item, which would probably not be tailored for various languages anyway.
August 29, 201113 yr Author This is really not satisfactory! ieSpell falls off of IE9 on the nest restart and has to be reloaded. It does not highlight the letter it is alerting to and unless the post is highlighted before clicking on the speller icon, it starts spell checking the entire page. Why is it that every time I think i will finally have a board that is all there, I find it necessary to explain to my members that "well, that is missing, but if you do this jury-rig , you can fake a solution." This is getting old!
August 30, 201113 yr iespell used to work fine with the old board. Vanished when I upgraded and I'm unhappy with that. Not visible on the blog screen even though it is enabled and running in other sites. Is this a problem with IE9 or IPB 3.2.1? Either way, I'd love to see a workaround.
August 31, 201113 yr Management I thought spell checking was built into all modern browsers without the need for plugins or anything?
August 31, 201113 yr I thought spell checking was built into all modern browsers without the need for plugins or anything? I thought so too until I got some PM's griping about it.

August 31, 201113 yr I thought spell checking was built into all modern browsers without the need for plugins or anything? Add it for us Safari users! We have to do so much clicking.
August 31, 201113 yr I thought so too until I got some PM's griping about it. What browsers don't have it? The main ones I test for do... IE. FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera.... they all have it and they all work well with IPS. Add it for us Safari users! We have to do so much clicking. why the clicking? it highlights errors as you type, right click for the proper spelling.... I'm confused! lol
August 31, 201113 yr What browsers don't have it? The main ones I test for do... IE. FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera.... they all have it and they all work well with IPS. I didn't bother asking, I had other things I was working on at the time and put it on a back burner. Haven't heard about it since, so it can't be too important.
August 31, 201113 yr What browsers don't have it? The main ones I test for do... IE. FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera.... they all have it and they all work well with IPS. Which version of IE has it inbuilt?
August 31, 201113 yr whoops... I don't use ie other than testing... I would have thought MS stepped up to the plate... but it looks like they didn't'...
August 31, 201113 yr why the clicking? it highlights errors as you type, right click for the proper spelling.... I'm confused! lol Use to be able to right click a word and select the correct spelling. Now you have to go under and select from several options and then deal with grief or going through words that are meant to be spelled the way they are.
August 31, 201113 yr Here is an add on for IE that should work fine for your usershttp://www.speckie.com/home/ I just tested it and it's being blocked as well.... I would report a bug on it, as it works with other ckeditors fine, but not ips. Use to be able to right click a word and select the correct spelling. Now you have to go under and select from several options and then deal with grief or going through words that are meant to be spelled the way they are. Must be a mac eh? I just tested Windows version and it works the same as others, right click and select the correct option.
September 5, 201113 yr Author Each alternative seems to have a short coming. I put ieSpell in Internet Explorer 9 and it work until I rebooted the computer. then it was gone. The same for Speckie. At least Speckie underlined the misspelled words. The problem was that I could not figure out how to get it to offer an alternative speling list. It too dissapiered after reboot. I agree that these are mostly IE9 problems, but it would be good to have something to offer my members other than telling them to compose in a word processor program and copy to the board.

Then it would conflict with the other 95% people that have modern working browsers. Spell check is meant for the browsers. Don't re-invent the wheel.
September 6, 201113 yr it be nice if IPB had a spell checker atleast in a modual that can be enabled and disable. As for language well maybe have a language file or something member themself can do.
December 7, 201212 yr This has turned into an issue for us since upgrading a few weeks ago as we were on such an old version that members are telling me they had it in the board. I don't know as I've never used it! They are missing it greatly! So basically, it definitely isn't in 3.3.4 and they need to use something through their browser then? I shall have to give them the good news lol! TCx
December 7, 201212 yr Spell checking has never been a part of IP.Board. If your users want it, they need to either use a browser that has it built-in or install the addon that adds it into the browser they are using.
December 7, 201212 yr Management I thought every browser already had spell checking built in? Every browser I use does at least.
December 7, 201212 yr I thought every browser already had spell checking built in? Every browser I use does at least. If their users keep their systems upto date. p.s. Windows 8 now has System-wide spell check, and IE10 finally supports it too.
