Emails generated by ipb board notifications are getting bounced

My members have been complaining to me about not receiving notifications, I checked my email logs and found an enourmous amount of bounced emails from hotmail, appearantly hotmail marked emails sent by the forum as spam? It is all opt in notifications generated for my members at thier request? I have never once sent out an unsolicited mass email, my 17,000 plus membership hates that so I simply dont do it! No newsletters none of that unsolicted bs, yet now my forum has been marked by the biggest email providers as spam?

Its spread to other microsoft networks and even gmail now, shaw.cn in canada and sister networks of hotmail all bounced ipb emails from my server. I tried switching from local host to a different host, using gmail and then the bounced mails got worse. I read that I need an spf record for my DNS records to meet this oppressive microsoft spam criteria but the host I use does not support spf records 1and1.com! I am on my 3rd email server and still cant seem to find a solution? Anybody else having this problem, I had to switch to admin validations instead of email validations cause many of them are not getting the validation? I checked my server to see it was infected with a spam bot - no its free of that. Not hacked at all so its all just the major email services marking ipb mail as spam?

Check your servers IP against some of the public spam blacklists, most likely your server has been added to one of those. They'll usually have a process for getting your server removed. If you happen to not be in any of those public blacklists you'll have to contact each provider blocking you one by one and figure out their process for getting removed.

Just caught that you are on 1and1.com your IP might have just gotten added to a blacklist because it's in a range that another 1and1 user is in and is spamming people. While 1and1 is one of the biggest hosts they don't have the greatest reputation when it comes to dealing with spammers.

Have you tried adding some SPF records to the DNS and see if that helps, But like arabianbreeders.net said it's probably the server IP being blacklisted, The best bet is to ask your server supplier to provide you with a NEW IP, See when you order a server you get an IP, But you do not know what the previous user has done... I always ask for new released ones to be on the safe side.

It might help to post a sample of what was bounced... (you can sensor out the original recipient)

Just assuming it's because your black listed doesn't really do much... take it from someone who works for a huge Spam Filtering company.

Correct, SPF are a must if your using a VPS or some sort as most likely that IP has been used before, And mostly may be for a bad reason.

Provide an IP and I can test it, Also give the spf for the domain if needed :)
