Mysql ram usage utf-8 and latin2

I had converted DB from Latin2 to utf-8 it seems that we are using much less memory for mysql
earlier we were using 900-1000mb, now we are using about 600mb - how it's possible?

Some errors or it's regullar behaviour?

Thats still a fair bit of memory for a MySql, We only use around 3.6mb with over 300DB's.

Personally I think your allocating way to much, Whats your my.cnf look like and then output of mysqltuner.pl ?
