Autoquoting Posts

Not sure if it ever has been brought up, but another thing that crossed my mind...

When using the "Send PM to User" while in Topic View, it would be nice if it automatically included a quote of the post the user made. Because most of the time when you use the "PM Member" from Topic View you would want to reference it to the particular post, or maybe that is just me.

Really? Interesting how "workflows" and usability patterns differ... What's the verdict with the rest of the world?

When I want to PM User XYZ I usually go through members or right into my Messenger and type the name manually. When I use the button within a thread is is usually because I want make a private remark in reference to what was said in that particular post (or give an off-the-record "warning" for unwanted behavior).

I'd love to hear some more opinions on that, if however I am in the minority I am fine with binning that idea.

On 2nd thought, wouldn't it be possible to use the "Multiquote" for this in dual manner? Like you highlight that post and when you click "Send PM" from the user menu instead of "Add reply" it just does the quote procedure into the PM window?

Sometimes when I do it from within a topic, it's for convenience more than anything else. If it's about what I just read, I'll make a reference to it. If I need a quote, I'll hit the quote button, select all/copy, go back one page, click to PM, paste the quote.

When PM'ing someone from within a topic, it's not too frequently that I need the contents of the post quoted. Having an option somewhere would be nice, so that environments that need such a feature would have it, without being a nuisance to others.

In the pop-up box for the PM, maybe a check box for quoting the post.
