I know the quick reply used to auto expand before, is there a reason it doesn't anymore?

It's a bug from when they updated these forums to "4.2". It's been acknowledged and confirmed :)

Some browsers allow you to expand the text box (I use Safari and you can just drag any textbox to the size you need) - although this is on our list of nitpicks (not sure what will be done, but we are aware of it).
