Sophie R. Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Simple Machines and VBulletin already do it: when a post is deleted, the postcount of the affected member is updated to reflect the change. Will this be in the new forum? Because it would be nice not having to go to the admin CP and rebuild postcount once a while which upsets my members. If a post is deleted and it is immediately reflected in the postcount they wouldn't be so much upset. Now they don't understand why they lost so many posts.
sunrisecc Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 This debate has been around for a long time. If I remember correctly, the current manner will not be changed. For instance, I routinely purge old topics and do not want the post count to diminish. In my case ( and the situation in all previous versions of IPB), it is the total number of posts ever made since day 1. In your case, you want it to be the current number of active posts.

Yes, this is right. If you want, you have to change this ACP. A change would not be good. But you can supplement the ACP: Would they deleted contributions deducted automatically from the counting? JES / NO
TrixieTang Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Originally I didn't get why IPB does it like this, it made no sense to me, but after hearing that it's to show all posts made by a user ever rather than show all existing posts by a user it made sense for once. Honestly, I don't really care which way it uses, or whether there's an option for it. Postcounts are pointless, it's not number of posts that matters, it's quality of those posts. And I'm really considering removing postcounts from my forum when 3.0 is released.
