Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
noop Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Hello, Today, I saw a ton of bots post inappropriate content on my forum, so I logged into the admin panel to start deleting accounts, when I saw the update.http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...p;#entry1759765 I have edited the files, and everything, and ate supper. Came back, and bam!, 4 new users with posts on the forums. I Enable Captcha using Advanced GD Library option, and am using Captcha Fonts. Does anyone else have any suggestions to this issue? Here are a list of a few ip's I grabbed before I deleted the 20 accounts, so you may want to block these if you do not wish to get spammed by them. 92.243.167.220 67.212.189.146 89.28.114.111 93.80.253.138 92.48.112.99 78.157.143.202 68.202.117.243 78.157.143.215 194.8.75.214 78.157.143.211 89.248.162.166 85.12.25.49 93.92.200.20 91.66.226.153 195.5.116.248 89.18.189.52 If I cannot post the IP's I am very sorry, please edit the post, or contact me and I will remove asap. -3xpl0it P.S. I guess if you leave them unblocked one of the good things is you get a great SEO effect of who's online :D
TestingSomething Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Same thing is happening on mine and since you said this, I now am sure it is someone from this site because notice we are both the ones taking conservative positions here (or more conservative than the majority) so I doubt it's a coincidence that we are the two saying inappropriate content is suddenly being posted on our sites. So I believbe it's something set into place by someone here. I keep simply moving them to the banned group where they will simply help my site's member count go up. lol Then I delete their posts. But it's getting annoying because I think there have been 40+ accounts amde on mine today. Oh and another point, I use email validation. So it's doubtful it's bots since it requires both the captcha and a valid email address.

So it's doubtful it's bots since it requires both the captcha and a valid email address. That is perhaps the most inappropriate post I have ever read. When forums all over the Internet (not just IPBs) are being spammed to death for you to infer that someone from these very forums are targeting you for something as ridiculous as a disagreement on political points is utterly absurd. It's one thing for you to act this way in some sort of opinion-based discussion in a general chat area but completely another for you to act this way in a company feedback area in a topic regarding a problem impacting thousands of people. It is irresponsible and distracting to those who want to work on fixing an issue and it's quite enough. To the original poster: I'm going to lock this so it does not turn into a flame war. There are some other topics about the spam issue or feel free to PM me if you have questions. I am quite sorry your topic was hijacked and I will be happy to assist you in any way that I can.
