Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
mat_ Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Maybe I have to switch to two-servers configuration (www and sql) but firstly I would like your opinion from experienced administrators. For 800-900 users online (5mins). What servers specification are needed? Thanks
rct2·com Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 It would help if you told us your current spec, the operating system, what else is running on your site, and the server load stats.
mat_ Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Here is my specs: Processor: Dual Xeon E5420 Quad Core Memory: 6GB DDR2 PC5300 Hd1: Dual 73GB SCSI / Hardware Raid 1 15,000 RPM
bfarber Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 With 900 people online at a time, you are probably reaching the point where you need two servers. This is all variable, depending on what is most used on your site and what your members do there, but with this many members you probably have a lot of posts, and once people start heavily browsing and searching and stuff, having everything on one box can drag down a little.
crafty55 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Use the server with less ram but beefy cpu for httpd w/fastcgi php Use the other box for MySQLD (Compile it yourself, and try to get two drives, setup innodb)
