Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
SacEric Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I moved my site over to ASmallOrange.com a while back and started w/ their shared hosting, but due to some issues that a vocal minority on my site was having, I decided to upgrade to a VPS account. One sponsor is still having problems w/ the site being slow, but it seems to be all sites hosted there, so I think that's a different issue. Anyhow, lately we've been experiencing a lot of downtime and it's getting worse. I'm sure the demand is getting less since we're losing members because of this. I currently have just over 10,000 registered and almost 350,000 posts. There used to be nearly 100 people on at one time, now less than half that and the number of actual members on is much less. I'm far from reaching the storage and bandwidth limits. ASO support claims that it must be a problem with hitting the memory limits, which causes the services to restart. Lately, when it goes down, it stays down until I contact support. Fortunately, they're very fast at getting it back up. Does anyone have a suggestion or experience that will help to get this fixed so I won't have to change hosts again? ASO support is going to be working with me today to try to get this resolved, but I want to be prepared - what is a good host that doesn't cost an arm & a leg to use for this size site? Thanks!
AndyF Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 All we can recommend here is IPS Hosting :)We do not allow topics requesting the sale of, or the purchase of, any items on this board. This includes, but is not limited to, IPB licenses, actual physical items to be shipped, services, and the like. There are enough places on the internet you can advertise your business that we request you do not do it here. Similarly, we do not allow the advertising of services that compete with Invision Power Services Inc. I`l leave this topic open anyway, (as long as it does not turn into a host recommendation topic) as you need ideas / suggestions to help you with your VPS and IPB performance.
SacEric Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 okay sparky can you actually offer any help?

The resource usage is probably getting pretty high ( using Apache and MySQL on the same VPS ), especially considering the usual minimal resource allowance that VPS' come with. I've found in the past that it's often better to just stick with a shared hosting package, or if you can afford it, a dedicated server.
