Jaggi Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 This probably goes without saying needs a overhaul, i'd like to see a feature for admin at least to be able to pm certain member groups or the entire forum. And members to be able to pm all their friends at once.
RawkBob Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 have a read at this: http://blog.mattmecham.com/archives/2006/1...l_topics_1.html
Jaggi Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 yes, and it sounds interesting but doesn't cover the issue i raised. Not sure its anything to do with personally messaging at all tbh.
Justin Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 It does, in a way.With a PM system setup the way Matt has showcased for IP.D, you could create a Personal Topic and invite Members1,2,3, or Groups3,5, or Everybody... (or Group6, but not Member3)Simply put it makes mass PM'ing an easy thing.
Brandon C Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 yes, and it sounds interesting but doesn't cover the issue i raised. Not sure its anything to do with personally messaging at all tbh.Yes, it does. Personal topics seem flexible enough to do what you said.

Cybertimber2009 Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 If you're pming all of your members... wouldn't a topic be better? It would require far less database space I believe.
Justin Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 If you're pming all of your members... wouldn't a topic be better? It would require far less database space I believe.That's why the current PM system is not well suited for mass messaging... however a "personal topic" system would solve that issue.P.S. I'm sorry but KX why did you bother getting into this topic with a reply like that? No need to make him feel like an idiot when it's already been pointed out (twice) that he may have mis-read things... -.-;
.KX Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I read the first post then read the post that was linked to in the second post them made my reply...
Justin Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Well, can I offer your own advice to you in regards to replying to a topic? :whistle:
Jaggi Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 yea i think i get it now, kinda saw the ip.d post a while ago when it was first posted on matt's blog. I get what you mean tho and how mass pm'in members would cause more load then this format. Does seem like a nice solution, its kinda brief tho so not sure if it has an option to add entire groups to the topic or not so if not that would be something worth adding. Also not sure whats the alert system used on this and whether it'll be as "urgent" as a personal message as people always consider pm's to urgent and check them immediately and the alert system in the form of a popup make sure people visit as soon as they check the forum (in theory).
Justin Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 However, all those things are rather trivial to add in compared to the rest of the underlying system...
Jaggi Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 true but if someone doesn't mention them then they'll never get added and they aren't trivial, e.g. being able to contact entire groups of members is a much needed and important feature and if it doesn't alert members then this whole project to replace or addon to pm's is no good because then comes back to pm feature needing option to pm entire groups.
