Jhorra Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I had a pretty serious problem after upgrading that I posted here: http://www.ipsbeyond.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14722I submitted it, and it was marked as bogus. How is something like that marked as bogus without any follow up or anything? That's a pretty serious problem if you ask me.
.KX Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 You could make up the most serious bug ever like:"After logging in I get 10,000 popups, my PC crashes and explodes". That's highly unlikely, therefore bogus...what was the bug that you reported exactly?
Defenestration Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 "After logging in I get 10,000 popups, my PC crashes and explodes".I had this happen to me once.... very nasty! :D
Jhorra Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 It's in the thread I linked. After upgrading my forum in the forums folder, all the files in the root of my site were unaccessible. I would get the invalid permission error. They weren't connected to the forum in any way though.

ScottyToledo Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 ::: sighs ::: I tell you, with so many bugs listed as either Bogus, Cannot Reproduce or as browser quirks, my faith in IPB is beginning to waver. I'm beginning to have second thoughts about upgrading to 2.2.
Keith J. Kacin Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 If we are looking at the same bug report, you said:"which were not related to the forum in any way, they were simply files for my site, I would get access denied errors."To be fair... if you are having a problem with your site files, it really isn't an issue with IPB. It isn't the board's fault you got that error - I would recommend contacting your webhost.
bfarber Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 There is absolutely no way you can upload IPB files into a /forums subdirectory, and it would have ANY effect on your site files. I'm sorry, it's just not possible - it's how basic webservers work. That means, something else is wrong, something else changed, or your site files rely on changes in IPB, which we cannot support, and thus the bug report has nothing to do with IPB (at which point the closest categorization is Bogus). When 2.2 is fully supported (i.e. a final release) we'd be happy to assist you in determining what happened, but it's not a 'bug' in IPB and thus nothing we can fix.@Scotty - please take some time to read through the bug reports. I understand for a user it may be difficult to comprehend the categorization (an issue occurs on the site, and of course if you are using IPB it seems IPB is at fault) but there are so many factors at play you have to realize it's not always an issue with IPB. Some of the 'browser quirks' are things we will work at fixing (I've fixed some) but at times browsers just behave differently and it's very difficult to get everything working 100% the same way in all browsers. Bogus reports are reports that are not IPB's fault, or just simply don't exist (or are support requests which we do not honor in our bug tracker). Cannot reproduce reports are exactly that - issues we cannot reproduce. :)I try to explain the status in some reports, however it's just not always feasible.
Jhorra Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I think I thought of what might be causing it, I am using the IPB SDK on the rest of my site to tie the users into it. I bet with the differences in the authentication since it was linking the files to IPB it determined I didn't have the permissions needed to access them.On a side note, I work professionally as a web developer, I know it shouldn't have affected them, but I also recognize the permission denied page from IPB as I've been using your products for several years now. Also, upgrading was the only thing I had done before the problem started, so I knew it was IPB related. I'm not a simpleton that doesn't understand how the web works. I had checked all the file permissions, reuploaded everything, and had not made any changes. I did all the checks I could think of to make sure it wasn't something on my end. It wasn't until today that I thought of the IPB SDK connection, so even though it wasn't IPB's fault, it was connected, yet still dismissed without even a glance at the problem.
Management Charles Posted October 27, 2006 Management Posted October 27, 2006 Brandon dismissed it because you were referencing an issue totally outside the directory our software was installed in :)
