Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted October 24, 200618 yr Installation of 2.2.0 is much better and faster, although there is one thing I would like to point out within the installation which might throw our novice users a little. When entering your database name and database username and password it might be a good idea to highlight in RED Database Name: and add at the bottom of the Window something like...? "Database Name and Database Username must be the same" so not to throw confusion. Example below, Database Name: ipbtestDatabase Username: ipbtest. To be honest it might not cause a problem but complete novice users who have never used IPB before and install for the first time might get a little confused and frustrated. :)
October 24, 200618 yr But they are not the same. Having a message tell you that the database name and server login name must be the same would throw people off even more, since I might have a database called 'invision_22' and I login using the name 'jhenry'.What would happen then.
October 24, 200618 yr The database name and database username do not have to be the same, its easier to remember but not mandatory.
October 25, 200618 yr haha, that be so bad people trying to install like OMG the names aren't the same "halp im new teach me :)"
October 25, 200618 yr i'll put it forward that at least 80% of people call their db's forum i know i do
October 25, 200618 yr Putting the database and user name's the same is easier to remember, but it's all personal preference. You can put either one a different name.
October 25, 200618 yr most retarded questionI'm suprised you didnt ask them to add if you type the name in wrong or password it says "This database dosen't exsist"
October 25, 200618 yr This thread should be deleted, it's not right, and will only confuse people.
