Unused Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I just want to thank the IPS Team for this great upcoming release, great work!A simple question about the Non-English language support... Will I be able to change the locale settings in IPB 2.2?I ask this because when I translate my board to Spanish the dates and that stuff remains in English, I also would like to see a better and easier language editor/manager. :)Cheers!
.Cameron Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 You mean Language Packs? I can't think of any reason as to why it wouldn't be continued?
Wilko Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I don't believe it's improved since 2.1, I think it's the 3.0 release which will feature improved language support.
Unused Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 "Fecha y Hora actual: 20th September 2006 - 08:49 AM" You can see this at the footer of a Spanish translated Invision, doesn't look good IMO.
.Cameron Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Like how September is still in English? I agree that could be better.
Wilko Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 The problem with that is it's done with PHP I think and PHP would output it in English, I'm not sure how you would get around that unless you can change the PHP language which would surely solve that?
WalleniuM Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 thats not right. if you're programming mulirlinuagl, you can set the month names wit the http://de.php.net/manual/en/function.setlocale.php function...better question: is the ACP translatable? :D
.Cameron Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 better question: is the ACP translatable? :DThat's a good point, thinking about language packs I never thought about the ACP at all. It could be quite useful in some scenarios.
lOgOl Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 and what i am still missing: it seems to me there is still no ability to choose your favorite language upon registration! brandon mentioned once it wouldn
Munja Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I'm not 100% sure, but the ACP language packs are a v3.0 feature, and will not be avalible in this version.

WalleniuM Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I'm not 100% sure, but the ACP language packs are a v3.0 feature, and will not be available in this version.before that, the were a version 2 feature, after that a version 2.2 feature--- maybe some day it'll come... until that, all other bbs is more userfriendly than IPB... ;)

Although I don't affect me so I havn't really been paying attention to it. I did hear that some of the language files for the ACP are done, but it's not complete. I can see how it would alienate some admins.
lOgOl Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Something else we'll probably have to wait until 3.0 to gethopefully not! for me this would have been one of the most importand new feature i was waiting for!
WalleniuM Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 the bad thing while waiting for 3.0 is: i must answer half a million questions on translatable ACP's in the inofficial german support forum ;)
Masta2002 Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 better question: is the ACP translatable? :Dis there a official statment about this?
Quillz Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 is there a official statment about this?I believe it was stated on the 2.1 road map that full ACP translation support (or something like this) was a long-term goal.
todorov.com Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Hi. I know its beta comming out today but I will wait for the FINAL. However, I think that the language files will be the same (beta and final) so I can start translating them? When I upgrade with final, the non-english language files will not be updated with the new lines, right?
sychn Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 The language system of IPB is not good, it was a pain if the devloper change stings in the middle of the language file. And each upgrade all language files came with the new edit date even there was no change in it, so we must open each file to see if there were new strings. And my site is in utf-8 encoding, but there are a few place that I can not translate (Like Sun/Mon/Teu/Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat in Calender into 日/一/二/三/四/五/六), if I did, it became unrecognizable stings with several HTML symbols, I guess the stings here maybe difined as only single-byte charactor.I suggest IPS can make the IPB with only one language file, or all of IPB products share one language file while the 3rd party modifacation use another. It will be easy to manage and translate.

It will not add them if the english and bulgarian language files exists but only english ?
WalleniuM Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 use a diff programm like "beyond compare", and its easy to get the changes from beta to final ;)
Masta2002 Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 beta1 is out now has anyone already cheked for a acp translation?

And... if some day IPS can make the language information saved in database, I think it will solve the current problem.
