I just want to thank the IPS Team for this great upcoming release, great work!
A simple question about the Non-English language support... Will I be able to change the locale settings in IPB 2.2?
I ask this because when I translate my board to Spanish the dates and that stuff remains in English, I also would like to see a better and easier language editor/manager. :)

Cheers!

"Fecha y Hora actual: 20th September 2006 - 08:49 AM" You can see this at the footer of a Spanish translated Invision, doesn't look good IMO.

The problem with that is it's done with PHP I think and PHP would output it in English, I'm not sure how you would get around that unless you can change the PHP language which would surely solve that?

better question: is the ACP translatable? :D

That's a good point, thinking about language packs I never thought about the ACP at all. It could be quite useful in some scenarios.

and what i am still missing: it seems to me there is still no ability to choose your favorite language upon registration!
brandon mentioned once it wouldn

I'm not 100% sure, but the ACP language packs are a v3.0 feature, and will not be available in this version.

before that, the were a version 2 feature, after that a version 2.2 feature--- maybe some day it'll come... until that, all other bbs is more userfriendly than IPB... ;)

I don't remember it as a v2.0 feature, but on the roadmap for the future. Although I don't affect me so I havn't really been paying attention to it.

I did hear that some of the language files for the ACP are done, but it's not complete. I can see how it would alienate some admins.

Something else we'll probably have to wait until 3.0 to get

hopefully not! for me this would have been one of the most importand new feature i was waiting for!

is there a official statment about this?

I believe it was stated on the 2.1 road map that full ACP translation support (or something like this) was a long-term goal.

Hi. I know its beta comming out today but I will wait for the FINAL. However, I think that the language files will be the same (beta and final) so I can start translating them? When I upgrade with final, the non-english language files will not be updated with the new lines, right?

The language system of IPB is not good, it was a pain if the devloper change stings in the middle of the language file. And each upgrade all language files came with the new edit date even there was no change in it, so we must open each file to see if there were new strings.

And my site is in utf-8 encoding, but there are a few place that I can not translate (Like Sun/Mon/Teu/Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat in Calender into 日/一/二/三/四/五/六), if I did, it became unrecognizable stings with several HTML symbols, I guess the stings here maybe difined as only single-byte charactor.

I suggest IPS can make the IPB with only one language file, or all of IPB products share one language file while the 3rd party modifacation use another. It will be easy to manage and translate.

You mean that If i replace the english files with my bulgarian language files the upgrade will add automatically strings (the new lines) in english which I should translate? It will not add them if the english and bulgarian language files exists but only english ?

Currently new version of IPB only covers the english language directory, you need to find out what added and then write the new strings into your bulgarian language files by yourself.

And... if some day IPS can make the language information saved in database, I think it will solve the current problem.
