Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Petrescu Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I don't like it at all.Is there any possibility I can use the old one if I decide on upgrading? I prefer when there are a selection of emoticons just to the left of where we enter text. The text box is FAR to wide.Insert special item? No. I prefer the images, I like what I'm used to and I think this is a backward step.
lerums Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I'm betting you can easily skin it back to the original theme :)
padiernosm Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I don't know. This is actually what I wanted. Everything seem very organized. Yes, I think it can be skinned to LOOK like the old editor but I think this is a step forward in terms of usability.
lupin84 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Couldn't agree more. Love the profile page and stuff but the post screen looks like it's been ripped from some small free forum. It's not userfriendly.
robirming Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I agree. Pretty much the same thing as I've discussed here.I'm really not sure about the smileys in a dropdown either...
Jimi Wikman Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I dont know...kind of like it :) It works better for narrower skins as well I think...
Gozzy Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 its kinda good. I like it more then the other theme
Ziv Grosu Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I do not know what with you but it's very Pretty!
lupin84 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I agree. Pretty much the same thing as I've discussed here.I'm really not sure about the smileys in a dropdown either...Exactly.The problem with the emoticon dropdown is it only works with the default board set up, start adding more smilies and you're screwed, it's going to look terrible.
The Clash Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Maybe for emotes you can go between 2.2 standard and 2.1 standard... That'd work. Of course, I myself think everything about 2.2 looks utterly amazing.
lupin84 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Yeah that could work, I'd certainly like to be able to get some of the old layout back. I can't begin to explain how stressed people are going to be with some of these extra clicks lol. I can hear them now.
Guest Guest Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 its colorful but WHY WHY WHY on earth options are at two extreme ends? it means i have to move my mouse from one side completely to another for the options. editor is looking good but what is the justification for the organization of the options?
forums.bd Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 1) The options are located at left most and right most. I don't think thats very user friendly. 2) Scrolling bars on the smilies? First its a tiny little popup and we have to scroll even there? The only solution I can think of is if you allow only 4 or 5 emoticons in your board!
Gozzy Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 its colorful but WHY WHY WHY on earth options are at two extreme ends? it means i have to move my mouse from one side completely to another for the options. editor is looking good but what is the justification for the organization of the options?you did also have to do that in the old style
lupin84 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 The space between was significantly smaller though.
.Timmy Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 It's hideous. There are too many drop down menus and the editor is WAY too wide. I prefer the smilies on the left side still. Please tell me it will be easy to reskin the RTE into the old style. >_<
robirming Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Adding one of my replies in another topic here to keep things in one place:1. I agree, I liked the old way of dislaying some smileys for easy access.2. And as many others, I agree that the width of the posting screen is just too much. Good to know that it's possible to set the width in the ACP though.3. Yes, the 'Insert Special Item' does sound and feel confusing. In my opinion it would be much better to add a 'Aligment Options' dropdown and make buttons for the stuff in the 'Insert Special Item' dropdown. I hardly ever see people using the aligment options, while they do use linking, insert image etc very often.I really think the number 3 would be a good thing. :)Maybe even making it an 'Aligment & Lists' dropdown menu...
Petrescu Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 One benefit of having the emoticons to the left of the text editor is the text area is more of a realistic length, to that of topic view. You get more of an idea of how many lines you've typed before leaving a break. It is simply FAR too wide and am considering not upgrading because how the text editor looks now. It's one of the most used features on any forum and it seems to have been totally changed for the sake of making a change. Why change something that works perfectly well, if you do then at the very least add parts to improve it.It's been completely changed :(
N.U. Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I don't like the new editor at all. It looks worst then before. Why are the similes in a drop down window? Why has eveything been put into drop down menus? not everything works in drop down menus. Some of the features look good but some of them feel like they should have been in 2.1 so I'm thinking of not swtching to 2.2. I hope I will be able to use the old options for the text edtor like there will be for the profile view. Which by they way looks bad. I mean very bad looking and lot of it is too myspace... IP.Board is a message board system, not myspace.
Logan Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 The only complaint about the text editor that I have, is it's too wide.
N.U. Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 when I get ahole of 2.2 I may have to spend extrea time reworking the text editor.
ScottyToledo Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I don't like all the dropdowns either. Especially the smileys. My board has ALOT of smileys, and this will just screw them all up. I may not even bother installing the upgrade, my members will not be very happy with me if I do.
Management Charles Posted September 19, 2006 Management Posted September 19, 2006 We are talking about some ideas to change up the feel :) Give us a day or two.
ScottyToledo Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Maybe give us some options about this in the ACP? I really do love the look of the new software, this is my only issue with it.
