Limit E-mail Notifications

I would like to suggest an option for admin to limit the count of notification e-mails users are getting (per day/per month). I have a problem with members visiting the board frequently enough but still enabling PM and new reply notifications thus ending up getting the board to regulary send out a relatively huge amount of e-mail resulting in full mailboxes and some e-mail providers putting our site in their black list and rejecting our e-mails which creates problems for other members when confirming their accounts and resetting lost paswords.

Thanks!

Indeed. It should be possible to limit the amount of e-mails sent out from the board per day. This should include sending out confirmation and password reset e-mails. :)

Might be a bit of a bummer when someone registers only to discover their activation mail isn't allowed to be sent

The limit should be per-member. I should've made that clear.

ellawella, of course per member! Thus the registration letter for a new member is the first one and is sent out unless the limitation is 0... ;)

That makes more sense ;)

Wouldn't it be easier as an admin to run a daily sql query that removes X day old threads from the subscription service.

Plus you can set the time till such subscription expires, set it for one day.

No, becuase people can still request validation emails too many times. ie. If you signed up someone and then flooded his mailbox using the Resend validation info link. Having subscriptions pruned is highly annoying as it stops us from keeping track of topics such as support topics on IPSBeyond.

Removing subscription for inactive threads does not address this issue at all. Because inactive threads do not produce any e-mail.

Does this even makes sense for the subscription feature then?
