  1. We can't figure this one out. The error occurs sometimes when a member attempts to upload an image. I just tested uploading images and could not trigger the error. Here's one example from the System Log 07/20/2023 01:37 PM upload_failure InvalidArgumentException (0) #0 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/File/File.php(326): IPS\_Image::create('') #1 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/File/File.php(436): IPS\_File::create('core_Attachment', '20190624_Rothen...', '', NULL, false, NULL, true) #2 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Helpers/Form/Upload.php(755): IPS\_File::createFromUploads('core_Attachment', NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, 0, Object(Closure), NULL, true) #3 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Helpers/Form/Upload.php(309): IPS\Helpers\Form\_Upload->processUploads() #4 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Helpers/Form/Editor.php(766): IPS\Helpers\Form\_Upload->__construct('topic_comment_5...', Array, false, Array) #5 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Helpers/Form/Editor.php(185): IPS\Helpers\Form\_Editor->getUploader('topic_comment_5...') #6 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Content/Item.php(5072): IPS\Helpers\Form\_Editor->__construct('topic_comment_5...', NULL, true, Array, Object(Closure)) #7 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Content/Item.php(4749): IPS\Content\_Item->commentFormElements() #8 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Theme/Theme.php(885) : eval()'d code(5312): IPS\Content\_Item->commentForm() #9 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Theme/SandboxedTemplate.php(61): IPS\Theme\class_forums_front_topics->topic(Object(IPS\forums\Topic), Array, NULL, Array, true, NULL, Array) #10 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/applications/forums/modules/front/forums/topic.php(611): IPS\Theme\_SandboxedTemplate->__call('topic', Array) #11 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Dispatcher/Controller.php(118): IPS\forums\modules\front\forums\_topic->manage() #12 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Content/Controller.php(50): IPS\Dispatcher\_Controller->execute() #13 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/applications/forums/modules/front/forums/topic.php(39): IPS\Content\_Controller->execute() #14 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/system/Dispatcher/Dispatcher.php(153): IPS\forums\modules\front\forums\_topic->execute() #15 /home3/ultravio/public_html/content/index.php(13): IPS\_Dispatcher->run() #16 {main}
  2. I fumbled and needed to edit the preceding post, but got locked out. So here it is again, complete this time.[hr] SOLUTION (some of this is "notes to myself" for future reference") After I created a Trouble Ticket, the Site5 tech discovered a Quality-of-Service error ("too many concurrent requests") for UVP in the server log of our shared server. Site5 included an excerpt from the log, but made no suggestions for dealing with the problem. I ran a WhoIs on one of the IP addresses associated with the QoS error and learned that the requests originated from Singapore. That led me to ask: were we being hit on or scraped by a bad crawler? UVP has instructions in its robots.txt that instruct such bots and crawlers to go slowly. But obeying robots.txt is not mandatory. Bots misbehave all the time. If a bot is creating too many simultaneous requests for different pages and page elements, the server and the software cannot cope with the dense traffic. Next I looked at our website statistics (cPanel>Metrics>Awstats), where it was clear that there was indeed some unusual Robot/Spider traffic beginning in May and dramatically increasing in the first half of July. In July we all saw constant ERROR 500 pages. Then I looked in our UVP raw access logs (cPanel>Metrics>Raw Access) in order to attempt to find who was hitting on UVP excessively. The request string IP address in our raw access log matching the Singapore IP address belonged to Bytespider. (Google it to see that it has a bad bot reputation.) Bytespider was blocked in .htaccess. UVP's web server log (cPanel>Metrics>Errors). Our web server log is now showing several current denials to Bytespider. Will Bytespider ever just give up trying to hit on us? Probably not. We are no longer seeing any ERROR 500 pages. While I do not have rigorous proof that Bytespider was causing the problem, I'm going to assume for now that the problem has been fixed. I will continue to monitor more closely both our Unique Visitor traffic and our Robots/Spider traffic. [hr] FWIW, our Unique Visitor count never exceeds 8500. This is well within our shared server service limits. I was assured by Site5 that we do not need a larger service plan. We are really a small, specialized forum and typically do not exceed 50 viewers per day. We rarely have more than 20 viewers at any one time. [hr] Perhaps my write-up here will be helpful to someone else. I hope so. Can you delete the first, incomplete SOLUTION post? Thanks.
  3. Too many searches being requested by "guests". I have temporarily set the throttling there to 1 hour. Like maybe automated bots are generating too many simultaneous searches?
  4. FUDGE! I spoke too soon!! 1) We have unlimited bandwidth. Our hosting service assures me that the problem is not one of needed larger hosting. 2) Here is the reply from Site5, our hosting service which indicates that "too many concurrent requests" is not a traffic problem. 3) I think we might be getting hit on by a bad spider, Bytespider. So I have added a block to ~public_html/content/.htaccess. I don't know if this is the cause of the problem, but it can't hurt to try this block.
  5. Oh!! OK. Thank you for getting me through this ERROR 500 problem!! I simply didn't initially realize that the problem was needing larger hosting. Now it all makes sense. 😀 I will go upgrade my hosting service.
  6. I got the results of a Trouble Ticket filed with my hosting service regarding the ERROR 500 which is disabling my website. It is caused by a Quality of Service error due to too many concurrent requests. On my shared server the maximum allowed is 100 concurrently, but the forum software is requesting more than that. Here is an excerpt from the server error log showing 2 examples of concurrent requests numbering 105 and 106 made from index.php. [Sat Jul 15 06:56:13.054213 2023] [qos:error] [pid 173667:tid 22512630933248] [remote 54.255.218.46:58140] mod_qos(010): access denied, QS_LocRequestLimit* rule: /(100), concurrent requests=105, c=54.255.218.46, id=ZLKJXS-EETlGrz_pPZk42QABFCI, referer: https://www.ultravioletphotography.com/content/index.php?/discover/&csrfKey=4689f70423451df5ff372dd54fe798a3&view=condensed [Sat Jul 15 06:56:13.054659 2023] [qos:error] [pid 173667:tid 22512768366336] [remote 54.255.218.46:58140] mod_qos(010): access denied, QS_LocRequestLimit* rule: /(100), concurrent requests=106, c=54.255.218.46, id=ZLKJXS-EETlGrz_pPZk42gABFAE, referer: https://www.ultravioletphotography.com/content/index.php?/discover/&csrfKey=4689f70423451df5ff372dd54fe798a3&view=condensed How/Where do I reset the forum software to prevent this?
  7. Upon getting the ERROR 500 (after attempting to access our Announcements board), I ran Show Page Source and got that there was some problem loading /content/index.php.
  8. The "latest web server error log messages" all seem to be attempts to hack by accessing wp_login through our public_html. Of course there is NO wp_login in our public_html.
  9. Should this Cron Job command have an "81" instead of an "80" ?
  10. Thanks. I'll go to Site5 and see what they have to say.
  11. The System Log shows repeated "upload failure". But I'm not sure this is relevant to the Error 500 problem. There are no messages in the Error Log. (Both logs acccessed via Admin. I finally got in.)
  12. After clicking the Error 500 page about 10 times, the website eventually comes thru - but it is incomplete. Here is one example. See the blue question marks on the Topics list.
  13. Everything looks good from ips4.php. I checked that we are running SQL 5.7.23-23.
  14. should I be in the cPanel terminal to do this?
  15. I made the most recent upgrade to the software. HOWEVER, the Error 500 was happening both before and after that. Thank you for the req checker. I'll go run that. well, my bad, but how do you run ips4.php after uploading it to cPanel? (feeling stoopid)
  16. We are getting "ERROR 500 - Internal Server Error" to the point of disabling my website. Where can I find a list of requirements for PHP, SQL, etc? I need to check that the correct versions are running (via cPanel). Currently I cannot access my Admin page. Thanks.
  17. Customization is OK. Where do I go, please?
  18. I added a couple of new tags (System > Settings > Posting > Tags) but I can't seem to move them "up" so that the tag menu is alphabetized. Where can I go to do this? Is there some *.ini or Settings file which contains the tags? (I have tried to look for such a file, but not found so far.) Also, the cursor cannot be placed into the Defined Tags display anywhere but at the end. Free cursor placement would enable adding a tag alphabetically.
  19. So, that was easy-peasy. A couple of clicks and we now have a new default theme. Thank you, Randy. 😃 But before I click "solved", I just want to make sure about the name of the default theme - is there a "required" name for the default theme?
