One of my communities is disappearing from Google
I am checking in now with the server manager about the Webmaster Console, as he's the only one handling that. The Crawl Management in the AdminCP is set on "Invision Community optimized." Thanks so much! I thought the SEO in IPS was so much better with some of the recent updates, which is why I wanted to check in on this.

One of my communities is disappearing from Google
I've got two IPS communities, one is about four years old and the other is fifteen years old. Starting in the last week or two, the older community is not showing up in Google searches. No one has been doing any kind of AdminCP or server maintenance or anything like that -- is this known bug with the SEO in the software at this time? This is what happens when searching to see what is indexed on the site: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ausmilitariaforum.com&source=hp&ei=11ZLYvazOMCZptQPu-2sQA&iflsig=AHkkrS4AAAAAYktk5zWAUz1WxvrPre0Tl7PEssQchcq6&ved=0ahUKEwi2-4Cvofv2AhXAjIkEHbs2CwgQ4dUDCAk&uact=5&oq=site%3Ausmilitariaforum.com&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAM6CAgAELEDEIMBOhEILhCABBCxAxCDARDHARDRAzoLCAAQgAQQsQMQgwE6BQgAEIAEOg4ILhCABBCxAxDHARDRAzoICAAQgAQQsQM6CAguELEDEIMBOgUILhCABDoICC4QgAQQsQM6CwguEIAEELEDEIMBOhEILhCABBCxAxCDARDHARCjAjoLCC4QgAQQxwEQ0QM6CwguEIAEEMcBEK8BOg4ILhCABBCxAxDHARCjAjoRCC4QgAQQsQMQxwEQ0QMQ1AJQAFj3B2C-CmgAcAB4AIABbIgBxQSSAQMzLjOYAQCgAQGgAQI&sclient=gws-wiz Images seem to be showing fine, but no pages. Bing.com seems to be working fine for both communities.

Members receiving Error code -200
Thank you! I have sent this to the gent who handles our server and will see if that fixes this.

Members receiving Error code -200
We've got several members experiencing issues when trying to upload an image into a post. We don't have a max size set for uploads, so that's not the issue. It's most common, they say, with Firefox -- but they're having it with Chrome and Edge as well. They try to upload an image and then wait some time, after which they receive the following error: Sorry, an unknown server error occurred when uploading this file. (Error code: -200) I'm not able to recreate it, but they have this a lot. I'm seeing a number of posts for this error, but we're not having this in Admin side or with animated images. They're taking pics on cameras and trying to upload a JPEG. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

No more support tickets?
Thanks so much! I will pass this around to our team.

No more support tickets?
Okay. We're self-hosted on two different IPS communities. Is there a way to get the e-mail resent that details what will be happening for us? Sorry, but we had an issue with e-mail for a bit here.
-
No more support tickets?
Oh, thank you! That's great. So, that will be available after the first of the year, as well as the option of posting in this Help Forum? Thanks!

No more support tickets?
@Charles Sorry, I think I must have used the wrong word here. I meant "ticket" being the little support button in the Client Area that opens a sort of e-mail chat system. Will that still be functioning? Thanks! We have two different tech admins on our community, so they don't all receive the e-mails from the base account e-mail.

No more support tickets?
After having experienced a couple weeks of e-mail issues, I realize that this message did not come through or was lost. Am I interpreting correctly that all support issues from now on should be posted here in this forum, rather than a support ticket? What do you do in the case of needing to share community members names or things that I would not want to post screengrabs of here on the board? Thanks!

User on iPad Can't View Forum?
Hi! Thanks for all the suggestions. The user did everything, suggested and actually reinstalled browsers. They did change to the default theme (which took some explaining, because they were sure it was broken since it was just plain white with no design). Starting last night, however, everything seems to be working fine. Not sure what it was causing the issue, but thanks for the help. Something worked!

Pages option. Where to find??
You do have to go into your Client Area and download the Pages app and install on your server to access the options. I remember having this same issue. 🙂 In your Client Area, click the "Download Invision Community" button. Then, download the package. Only upload applications/cms folder, then go to the Applications page in your Admin CP. You will see Pages in Applications currently not installed section.

User on iPad Can't View Forum?
Hoping there may be an answer for this. A member is having issues, because his iPad cannot view either of our two communities (which are updated to the most current). Here is his description of the problem. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! I was hoping you might help! I started having problems opening this forum and the world forum on my iPad about a month or two ago. I sometimes get a “the server stopped working” message but mostly it just spins and never opens up. I thought it was something with my old iPad….it was very old. But I now have a brand new one and unfortunately I am having same problems. I know my internet is working because I can pull it up on the laptop I keep upstairs, as well as on my phone. All other sites work on the iPad as well. Occasionally The Forum will load and work but maybe only two tries in ten. Although my IPAD is brand new, I did see there was an update available so did that last night. I am operating on 14.8 now if that helps your techs. Unfortunately last night the update did not work and things were the same. I use Safari browser, never used the Taptalk. Any suggestions? I usually surf the forum on the iPad and I am really missing that.

Number of postings as full numbers instead of abbreviation
Haven't gotten that one changed yet. Hopefully, someone will come along who figures it out. I also wish there was a way to show how many threads were in a forum (from the main front page), not just the post count.

Number of postings as full numbers instead of abbreviation
Go into your theme (in the ACP) and click the "Edit HTML and CSS" button on the right. Then, once you're in that area, there is the "Templates" tab on the left. Navigate to forums/topics/postContainer N.B. I changed the "short" to "long", as highlighted in this screencap. Hope that helps!

Post count reduced to short form in topics
Just to add another voice here . . . we run two forum communities, and this abbreviation of the post count is bothersome to the whole staff team and a lot of members. It would be really nice if this could be an option to have full numbers shown in all places. No abbreviations. Thanks.

Possible to show # of Threads in Forum?
Just bumping this in hopes that there may be a way to do this. Still haven't found one so far . . . Thanks in advance!

Possible to show # of Threads in Forum?
Hoping someone here may have found a way to do this -- I'd like the number of threads in each forum/board to show, as well as the number of posts. In the older versions of the software that was possible, but I haven't been able to find out how to get that done since upgrading to 4.5. I took this screencap, and I'd like the number of threads to show where the red circles are. Thanks in advance for any help!

Notifications slow or slap dash - Are my settings wrong?
I'll open a ticket then. We tried posting responses to threads of various ages and sizes.

Notifications slow or slap dash - Are my settings wrong?
Okay, finally able to get the two communities switched to cron about two days ago. The smaller community is working flawlessly now! Notifications within five minutes, usually within two. However, the larger and older community is still not working. We have spent time testing notifications for posts, PMs, etc. The timing is sort of all over the place, so we've been making a list as follows (and we got some right away, but keep going and you'll see that numbers of them took hours to arrive)-- Notifications of Reply to thread: Sent 12:58 - Rec'd 1:17 Sent 1:30 - Rec 1:30 Sent 1:32 - Rec 1:32 Sent 1:31 - Rec 1:37 Sent 1:31 - Rec 1:37 Sent 1:33 - Rec 1:42 Sent 1:31 - Rec 1:47 Sent 1:32 - Rec 1:47 Sent 1:48 - Rec 1:49 Sent 1:49 - Rec 1:49 Sent 1:49 - Rec 1:49 Sent 1:50 - Rec 1:57 Sent 1:49 - Rec 1:57 Sent 1:49 - Rec 2:07 Sent 1:50 - Rec 2:07 Sent 2:19 - Rec 2:19 Sent 2:19 - Rec 2:19 Sent 2:19 - Rec 2:20 Sent 2:19 - Rec 2:27 Sent 2:19 - Rec 2:37 Sent 2:19 - Rec 2:57 Sent 3:33 - Rec 3:33 Sent 3:33 - rec 3:33 Sent 3:33 - Rec 3:33 Sent 3:34 - Rec 3:42 Sent 1:30 - Rec 3:57 Sent 3:34 - Rec 4:12 Sent 1:49 - Rec 4:17 Sent 1:50 - Rec 4:17 Sent 2:20 - Rec 4:47 Sent 3:34 - Rec 4:52 Sent 2:18 - Rec 5:57 Sent 3:34 - Rec 7:12 Sent 1:33 - Rec 11:02 Sent 2:19 - Rec 11:47 Sent 3:34 - Rec 11:52 Sent 3:34 - Rec 11:52 Notification of PM: Sent 12:57 - Rec 1:07 Sent 12:53 - Rec 2:12 Sent 1:52 - Rec 3:07 Sent 3:44 - Rec 3:55 Sent 3:53 - Rec 3:54 Sent 4:03 - Rec 4:03 Sent 12:52 - Rec 4:32 Sent 3:58 - Rec 5:12 Sent 3:47 - Rec 6:17 Does this seem like I should submit a ticket?

Notifications slow or slap dash - Are my settings wrong?
Thanks! I've sent that to the Tech who handles the Server, so we'll see about getting that changed. Really appreciate the help, and I'll be sure to post here once it's been changed.

Notifications slow or slap dash - Are my settings wrong?
We're running IPS on two different communities, hosted on one server but totally separate sites. For years now, the e-mail notifications (for replies, PMs, etc.) have been very slow, sometimes slap dash. The long-time staff felt this was normal for IPS. However, in the last couple weeks, I've had occasion to post on two other communities using IPS (totally updated version, just like we're running) -- and the notifications were practically instant from both, with the longest one taking about four or five minutes to show up. This makes me realize that we've got an issue somewhere. Up until now, we've had the forum base e-mail running on an address from our domains. Notifications take hours or days to show up . . . if they show up. Having had server issues with domain addresses on another site that I've worked on, we switched the e-mail address to a GMail account this morning to see if that made a difference. Tested various PMs, thread replies, contact messages, etc. About 50% of them came in 60 seconds or less. About 35% of them took around 4-5 minutes to show up. The remaining ones have not arrived yet. So, the results with the GMail were definitely better, but still something not working correctly. Mail Delivery Method is set to PHP. Any suggestions on what may be going on here? Thanks in advance!

How to trace Banned Member using a friend's forum account?
Thanks. The problem at this point is that we don't know what account is being used. The original account for the banned member is totally banned with no access or permissions. Unfortunately, the member is now using an account of a friend. He bragged about this via another platform to a member-in-good-standing of our forum. But he absolutely would not tell the name of the account or owner of the account that he was using. I think this sort of leaves us trying to spot odd behaviour.

How to trace Banned Member using a friend's forum account?
Hoping someone may have some ideas here. We had a big incident some months ago and were forced to ban a member. Recently, he has been allowed to use an friend's old account on the forum. This all came through a "friend of the friend" who was unwilling to divulge the name of the account being used. Checked the IP Address of the banned account, but it is not showing up again. Does anyone know of other ways to trace activity and link it to a certain member?

Post Registration Profile Completion Step Cannot Submit
Thanks for following up. No, this has not gotten fixed so far and members are still having the issue as of yesterday. I've been hesitant to open another ticket, as I have one open about another issue, but I will put the info together and open a ticket. Thanks for asking!

Posts disappearing from board since upgrade to 4.6
Thanks! We do not have archiving enabled, so that's one thing to cross off the list. You're right -- there's no way to be totally certain that this is not happening on other boards, though members were quick enough to note their missing posts in the one board and have not noticed in any others. This wasn't an issue that I meant to drop, but we've had a number of other issues come up that have taken all my time and more. It's a very old community that has had a number of Admins over the years. Sadly, the IPS software was not updated for over a period of seven years until things had gotten so bad that it's been a year and a half of clean up. I'm totally volunteer (as is everyone on the community) and while I've managed multiple websites for years, this is the first time I've had experience with forums of any kind. The last seven months has been a real jump into the deep end trying to get things fixed up without upsetting the entire community. The 4.6 update changed a number of things that were considered "important", so it's been a lot to deal with. Until the recent posts on this thread, I realize that this issue had slipped my mind. Oops!
