  1. Matching browser and OS would help as far as intranets are concerned. Person on computer A is a dummy using IE, gives link to person B who is a smart person using FF, or person A is using XP and person B is using Linux. The overall idea would be to somehow match as much as possible (but without going nuts) the person using the ACP so that if the link is somehow shared in an environment where the IP matches, it would still ensure security.

You shouldn't be accessing your acp in a "shared environment". Not just that but someone will not just be able to obtain your session id it would take a fair amount of incompetence on the admin's end for that to happen.

  2. Hey, hey, let's back off of Archon Neo. If he wants to wait for subscription manager, it's his prerogative. :)

Beta 2 should be released very soon (this week, there is a "soft" release in the customer lounge for those brave customers who wish to try it on their board).

  3. that's probably because they didn't pay attention to it. It's not like it was such a massive bug it took them 3 years to fix.

Quoting them from the ticket "I've looked into this before and it's not that easy to resolve I'm afraid."

So it would appear that it was too difficult for them to do so they waited several years until IPB 3.

In other words they basically left their customers (who depend on the subscription manager) out to dry.

  4. I know. I'm merely making a point that some of us rely on this software and were led to believe that it would be ready faster, not dragged out over months.

If history has taught you anything you should have known it was going to take a long time regardless of what they made it sound like.

One of the biggest bugs on the subscription manager was reported back in November 2007 and another back in July 2006 and those were just recently fixed on beta 1.

That alone should tell you nothing is going to happen quickly which is why I'm still on 2.3.6.

  5. Your lucky your post is not on my board and you need to take lessons on how to be nice to people.

I'm sure you would also not appreciate people spreading misinformation.

I could have handled it nicer however he/she could have written their post more accurately like saying "I haven't noticed any bugs. I think my board is perfect." instead of trying to state things as fact like he/she did "Well, i dont have any bugs on my board".

Clearly, there are bugs just take a look at the bug tracker...

  6. Well, i dont have any bugs on my board.. It's working perfect :)

That's a pretty ignorant statement. There are confirmed bugs and I'm sure still unknown ones.

Just because you're too ignorant not to notice them doesn't mean they don't exist.

I'm glad however to see Matt and the others working through them.

    Great job.

  7. Thanks for your response. When it is released I will report any errors I get from my members. I have about 200+ active subscriptions so I bet that would help a bit.

Here are the problems/complaints I've had for 2.3.6 (not very many)

    1. Automatic renewal (I at first didn't know such a setting existed. So I had to go in, disable it, and tell the members to remove any subscriptions from their paypal)

    2. Double billed. Alot of my members were getting double-billed and I think it had to do with the automatic subscription issue. Once I disabled that, this problem wasn't reported any more.

    2. Renewing before expiration. Many members wanted to renew their subscription before it expires and found it frustrating that they can't.

    3. Failed transactions. On rare occasions the system would report a failed transaction or a transaction of $0.00 even though the payment was really successful (money was already sent to paypal). I had to manually take care of subscriptions for some members.

    4. Paypal / E-check delay. I don't know how people or paypal does this but a few members use e-checks and report long delays on getting their account approved even though the money was sent. When this happens I manually approve the accounts. I have some members from afghanistan and saudi arabia, and *maybe* there are some discrepancies with how electronic funding works there.

The date bug I reported back in November 2007  is likely the cause of those double charges.

    http://forums.invisionpower.com/tracker/issue-7729-date-bug/

My post on that page will explain the details.

  8. I'm aware of that fact. <_<

I'm just saying they listed South Africa instead of Israel. It would have been difficult to list every country that uses the +2 GMT timezone because users would be swamped with information to select from. Most people know what timezone they live in anyway.

Why is this such a big issue? I don't understand!

Because it's anti-Semitic not to specifically name Israel.

  9. IPB3?

    # 0.1695 sec

w/out shoutbox and sidebar crap it's maybe .03 less, this is on a highly tuned server setup that has enough power to run 10 ipb boards with 100s of members online and millions of posts/topics per forum...

Running ipb 3 rc1 with sidebars on a low-end server with no tuning.

  10. I'm curious as to why IPB3 is slower too.

I've let it do its caches, I've tried XCache (breaks css) but it helps only marginal.

I've had some of the fastest IP.Board's .0300 sec generation on most pages on IPB 2.3, everyone on IPB3 is atleast .1

I'd of thought IPB3 with it's fully OOP/PHP5 design/overhaul over the old code would perform MUCH faster.

Generation time on mine 0.0208 sec for index page.

  11. RC2 installed and still no subscription manager ! I don't understand why this is not considered more important. Heaven forbid we are using the forum software to make money.

If this feature is not restored soon, think of the thousands of boards that upgraded only to have to restore back to the previous version.

I agree there are some major bugs (confirmed bugs) with the current 2.3.6 subscription manager that have been totally ignored for at least several years.

I think more than enough time has been given so hopefully when/if they do include it in 3.0.0 it will be working flawlessly as it should with the ample amount of time that has been given (several years).

  12. The subscription manager doesn't seem to be included in RC1. Not sure why the developers don't realize the importance of this feature. Having it integrated, working properly with the major payment processors such as paypal, google checkout, alertpay etc. should be a higher priority than a stupid shoutbox.

I rely heavily on subscription manager in 2.36 for income. I think many potential forum software customers also look for these features when debating purchasing IPB.

I agree. Hopefully IPB can at least get it working properly as their subscription manager has been severely broken in many ways (bugs) for many years without any resolution.
  13. Why is the minimum password length only 3 characters? I see no option to change this in 3.0.0 RC1 and 2.3.6 just allows any number of characters even a single character.

I hope I'm just overlooking the option to change this because it would be sad on so many levels if IPB really set it up like this.

  14. Sorry if this has already been answered but how are the avatars in the gallery sorted?

On 2.3.6 they appear to be in some sort of order.

    01.png
    02.png
    03.png
    etc...

However in the 3.0.0 RC1 they are just randomly scattered around on the page and do not seem to be in any specific order.
