Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted September 29, 20204 yr Hey fam, would you guys find short links for our IPS forums to be useful? So instead of pasting a long link, or using Bit.ly (for example), a plugin/app is created that generates a short URL for your board. Bitly just started capping how many links you can create in a month on their free account. Thoughts?
September 29, 20204 yr I have a short version of my own forum domain. I wonder if I can set it up somehow so that domain can be used for automatic shortening of links posted on social media and so on?

Like another domain name that's an abbreviation of the original? Would that hurt SEO I wonder?
September 29, 20204 yr Yeah exactly like you said. like like google has goo.gl or youtu.be (but mines 3 letters just like bit.ly) Well what's the difference bit.ly or tib.ly for example? they are not the core domain so how could it hurt seowise?

Good point. What mechanism are you using to forward the URLs from the short URL to the original?
