Group Colors on User Links

but I guess people do

Oh yeah... Often used as flags for club permissions, as pseudo-badges/rewards (donated x-amount, volunteer status, and on and on...)

It would be a big mess of lists and sorted/ordered options - the lists and options all being groups. And even then, would still need to account for all this in the templates.

Just in case anyone is actually following this topic, it appears (haven't seen the code yet though) that the new group formatting feature built in for 4.4 is just doing what this plugin did years ago.

The only place missing in the IPS feature is topic view (posters name) or elsewhere where name and group appears. In this case, only group is formatted.

Ugh,  alright,  thx.  I'll take a closer look.

@All Astronauts

I've just upgraded to 4.0.1 here.

The setting says:

Quote

Applies the group formatting to usernames anywhere they are shown, unless the user's group name is also shown which will be formatted instead

Meaning that if in the same context the usergroup is already colored, the username won't be colored... See below how "Administradores" is in red, but my name isn't. Our staff would like to see their names also in the same color. Any chance of you changing this via this plugin? Thanks.

Get the latest version.  That is the single thing that it does.

@All Astronauts I am running the latest version... It might be a conflict with another plugin. I will investigate this further and let you know.

Disable that topic author badge plugin as a first guess,  assuming that is a plugin.

You'll need Global toggled on btw.

@All Astronauts Yep, Global set here. @Daniel Simoes Thanks. We do have the version 14 installed. We have several other plugins installed, so I think there is another plugin conflicting with this one. I will debug this later today. Thanks for the link, I could see that it is working fine at your forums. Valeu!

@All Astronauts Found the culprit here; it was an old, unsupported plugin called "Insert Nick". Deleted it and replaced with a newer one that does the same thing and the issue is gone. Many thanks!

Hi @All Astronauts!

Noticed today that the plugin isn't adding the color to the user's name in the topic list... See below.

Gabriel.

It wouldn't with the new barebones plugin for 4.4. I'll look to add this asap.

Hi, I have lost colored names in certain places over a night, has something changed recently? I'm on IPB 4.4.1. It was working fine yesterday.

Missing colored user links are on: ChatBox application, in a thread, Who's Online. This is what I 've noticed, maybe there is more

Do you have global toggled on in the acp?

I hadn't but I switched to it, yet it doesn't help.

ACP -> Members -> Profile -> Profile Settings, SCroll down to display settings - make sure GLOBAL is ON

I have it like this, and still nothing on chatbox and in threads.

Noticed I was still on version for 4.3, so upgraded to the 14 and I have colors in the threads. So currently from what I can see they are only missing in the "Who's online" module, and in ChatBox (application).

That widget is working. Do you mean another one?

Yeah, this is how it looks like to me (there are people who should have colored nicks there but no, they are just default)

And this is ChatBox (it also had colored nicks before):

So, here's the deal. My plugin, v14, ONLY has a single hook, and it's on topic view. That's it. So it's not this plugin, and..., the widget is fine on my local dev and live sites.

But I looked, and am puzzled - I can't see why it's not working for you, at least the widget. As for the chatbox app I would need to see how they are pushing through the member names - I can't get that without seeing the code (it's not in the templates - it's an ajaxed code push).

However - you can see that the activity feed is also not formatting with the global setting set to on. This, and the other bits, tends to indicate something else is going on.

Hit the support tool, something isn't working, and apply the patch (there is one avail for you), maybe that clears stuff up.

After that if it's not working, put in a support request, seriously, that's what IPS is there for.

BTW, that Member Country plugin I believe is filling up your system log with errors - may wish to contact the author about those.

@All Astronauts @Xeite It could be another plugin conflicting with this one, I'd suggest disabling all other plugins and leaving only this one and clearing the cache to see what happens.

I got access and went with default theme and disabled a few (not all) plugins and could not diagnose the problem. It ain't my plugin though - I just have that single hook on post view. Curious as to whats going on but don't have the time to work it for free; suggested tossing this at IPS support.

IPS support will not help, they don't support 3rd part applications they said.

The problem on Xeite's site is a plugin called Remove Group Name - latest version 1.0.1 - just fyi all that it will break group formatting in places, apparently. But again, zilch to do with my plugin.

V15 released!

  • Messenger - Conversation - Participants block up top, though not user links, are now formatted, because Joel asked me.
