OliverWilbur Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Hi, I host a photo sharing community and I have no interest in having png photos stay pngs: I don't need transparency and jpg compression makes images much smaller which saves lots of bandwidth and disk storage. This would be an optional setting.
Joel R Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 This has been requested before. As a large media site, I've had the same concern as well that JPGs are significantly smaller than PNG and the compression is easier. I personally hate BMP as the worst . However, there will need to be a lot of granularity to the potential settings since not all images should be treated equally. You may need transparent images (which require PNG) for the site logo, signatures, account photos, emoticons, and who knows what else. You may also want to treat attachments differently from IP.Gallery images. As such, it's not just a simple setting. Media and imagery transcend multiple components of the suite from the Core to the Apps and it's used in a variety of ways.
