Gallery albums and blog titles, I can understand wanting to be searchable, because they are user created content, but everything else is fixed containers, not content, so would not be included under "all content".

For the general user who is not the coder it does not matter what it is (so called content or so called container) if he want to find something interesting but can remember only the forum title.

I'm fairly sure members know how to find a forum given the name - just go to the forum index and look for the forum that they want. I perceive the search function as a way of searching for user-generated content, and that is how I would assume it to work given no other knowledge.

Previously you agreed that "Gallery albums and blog titles, I can understand wanting to be searchable, because they are user created content". Albums and blogs may be also created by administrator as well. So, let me deside what I want to be searchable in my FORUMS too.

If you need a search function to find a forum, that suggests that you should maybe consider reorganising the forums so that users can find the forum that they are looking for without resorting to a search function. I know there are a small number of sites with a ludicrous number of forums, and I guess that they would benefit from something like this, but for the vast majority of sites, users would never use it, but adding it would require changes to how the search index works in order to function correctly (otherwise, because forums have no content, they would always have very low search ranks compared to any actual content that mentioned those words). I'm sure you could get a custom mod for it, but I don't think the work required justifies the outcome for it to be part of the core suite.

It is always easy to make changes in all places, than to make changes in all applications except Forums. So, I guess that from the practical point of view it is easy to index everywhere than to answer constant inquiries about "why search is not searching forums' and subforums' titles?" Anyway my feedback is not about forums only and pointing to forums only is making the all idea wrong. But this is not so. Idea is good.
