Disable 'Liking / Up voting' own posts

This is an old post from 2011 but it mentions on disabling the ability to up-vote your own posts (issue I have on my own forums with people abusing reputation counters). 

How is this achieved? i'll give a cookie to someone who has a step by step guide

It's a global setting found at Members > Reputation. On the Reputation Settings tab you'll find the relevant option: Members Can Give Themselves Reputation?
