run php file please help

how can i execute a php file.

trying to add this to the global header section:

<?php include('file.php'); ?>

the poor documentation says something about using {{ }} but can't get it to work. Things worked fine pre 4.X

thanks in advance. i've been quite frustrated with this issue enough to look into an alternative forum software
