Currently, the PM notifications link in the User profile bar displays the number of unread new PM notifications.

However, once opened, they disappear, and it doesn't show the number of unread PMs.

IMO, that would be much more useful, because that clearly is what members really want to see.

So if you can accommodate both, great, but if it is only possible to accommodate 1, please change it to show the number of unread PMs, even if it does not show them all.

Still figuring out how to skin it this way, actually, although I have been able to make unread PMs at least stand out in the list it displays.

I just comment out the update line in messenger.php and now it shows the unread. True I have to do this every update and a switch would be easier.

In 3.4.6, it is line 131.

I might be on the wrong page here but if you force it to send a notification of a new message it can get stuck in an infinite loop, this is why the option to do this was not available since about 3.1.x iirc.

I am only referring to the red number showing unread (indicator) and not notifications.

yeah thats bugged be too, was wondering about that.

Can you tell me how you did this? I want it to show a notification for all unread messages not just new ones. If I'm in a conversation with someone and then I get a new message it's easy to look over the previous conversation because there is no notification.
