Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
steve922 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I just converted to the hosted version from my own server and was a bit upset to find the limited options in cpanel. Namely no awstats or webalizer. I relied heavily on these stat apps to gauge and adjust my board to the population. Can we have these enabled?
Connor T Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 They are resource hogs and don't really represent hits well, in my experience. If you need to track hits, I would suggest Google Analytics. IPS probably has its own reasons though.
steve922 Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Tried Google analytics but never got accurate readings. Not looking for hit counts as much as location, browser, linkfrom, errors and keywords info.
Guest Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I'm afraid we will not be enabling awstats, analog or webalizer, due to the reasons listed above. Google Analytics provides very accurate readings of all of the items you mention above, I'd recommend giving it another try.
steve922 Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 No problem. I thought I'd ask. As for Google Analytics, no thank you. I've tried them on several sites and the stats are no where near accurate. I'd do better calculating stats with my toes on an abacus.
Gary. Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 It can be resource heavy but all depends on the setup, If done right you can set it to run / Update based on the current CPU and connections which is quite easy to configure using SPRI script, If set to default and you host alot of web sites then yeah this will go high or can make things sluggish and whack out a huge I/O wait. webalizer hardly uses anything in my opinion and it's the less intense out of the lot of them
