Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
JimHedd Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Hi, I am trying to figure out how to upload the converter. One of the instructions states to upload the contents of the Upload folder. However, one of those contents is called Admin and it would overwrite the IPBoard Admin folder. Another instruction states to upload it like an application and it provides the following link for instructions: http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/documentation/index.html?record=115 This link is dead. Any help is appreciated. Jim
Mat B Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 The tutorial you refer to is correct - the admin folder should overwrite the IP.Board admin folder. This is typical of any application. Near as I can see, the article on that has gone AWOL, but now that you've brought it to our attention someone I'm certain will look into it. If you're worried that you may break things, we can perform the conversion for a flat fee for you. Otherwise, feel free to submit a ticket if you run into trouble. Please do note that support is only provided in the customer sections on the forums - not the feedback or general forums.

Hi Jim, It shouldn't overwrite the entire contents of the Admin folder if that's what you're worried about. Some of the files the converter uses are uploaded to the Admin folder, but under their own sub-folders, something like (just an example): /Admin/Forums/Converter/converter.php When you upload the contents of the hook/mod/application Admin folder, it will only upload the files it needs for itself - it shouldn't overwrite your default board files. (Some of those files in the Admin folder are so you can access/control the application or hook from the admin control panel). The same goes for similarly named folders within the Upload folder - they should add their own specific files, without overwriting other stuff. The only other thing to mention is that if you have your forums running from /forums then that's the root where you'll need to upload everything. Hope that clears it up a bit. Cheers, Shaun :D
Jim H Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Hi Jim, You won't overwrite the entire contents of the Admin folder if that's what you're worried about. Some of the files the converter uses are accessed through the Admin control panel and only available to the admin, so they are uploaded to the Admin folder. Think about it this way: There may be a file called converter.php that is part of the admin folder structure, something like this - /Admin/Forums/Converter/converter.php - when you upload that file it won't overwrite the Admin folder content, just create the structure if it isn't there. As a general rule when uploading things to your IP.Board the archive file will contain an Upload folder with instructions to upload everything in there to the root of your forums, so a modifiction, for example, may have top-level folders for: Admin Interface Public Within those folders will be files specific to that modification / hook / application, but they shouldn't overwrite your default board files (unless they specifically say so). The only other thing to mention is that if you have your forums running from /forums then that's where you'll need to upload everything, e.g. /forums/admin, /forums/interface, /forums/public Hope that clears it up a bit. Cheers, Shaun :D Thanks, Shaun. I figured it out.
Clickfinity Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Good stuff ... have you completed your conversion now, or was it just a test?
