Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Wolfie Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 A couple of extra features to consider. For watched topics/forums/etc, allow a member to select Inline notifications instead of emailed. For topics the member started, get notifications (inline/PM/email) anytime a reply is made to the topic.
Josh Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I believe the "Notification method to use for new topics and topic digests" and "Notification method to use for topic replies and reply digests" options should handle forum/topic subscription notifications. As for the "Topics I've started with replies" option, you could always use the "Watch every topic I reply to" option, which will add it to the watched list and give you notifications.

The problem with the "watch every topic" is that someone may not want to get notifications of other topics, only the ones they started. Just like you can use the filters to show only topics you started and not just replied in.
Josh Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 That's true, I guess we could think about adding a "Watch every topic I start" option, I know it's been brought up before.
Wolfie Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 This would actually accomplish the request others have made for subscribing people to topics that they started, as the admin could select to have them automatically notified when one of their topics gets a reply and could set it to send it via email. I'd personally prefer to just get an inline notification myself, as it's nice to know when a topic of mine has received attention. But I know others would certainly appreciate knowing when a topic of theirs has been poked around some.
