atsaunier Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I know wordpress does this and ipb is a totaly diffrent system and might not beable tobe done, but thought it would be cool if we could choose in our acp to upgrade our site if theres a upgrade avalible and it would requires us use our login like the normal upgrade does but it will go to ips and download the files to our server insted of having to download them and upload them ourselfs ( i know some people upload is not so great) was just an idea, not sure if its a good one or if its been menrtioned before, so just thought id throw it out there :)
Management Charles Posted February 9, 2010 Management Posted February 9, 2010 We have actually looked into and considered it. It's just a huge undertaking and prone to errors based on the millions of server configurations. It's something we might do someday though. It would be nice that's for sure :)
Wolfie Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 If this is added in (at any point), I'd like the option to download the package (ZIP format) into a folder of my choosing (so I can put it in a non-web-accessible location) so that I could extract and do the upgrade myself, but with a shorter step since it'd already be on the server for me. Perhaps it could be a multi-step process. Download. Extract. Backup (database and files). Upgrade files. Upgrade board. Then I could pick to get to the point of backup and then quit so that I could handle the rest manually, if I feel the need to do a few things first.
