PM Search using Sphinx

I have quite a few PMs in my inbox on my forum (over 20,000). When I search my inbox using the search field in the messenger, it takes a fair bit for it to respond. Would it be possible to add Sphinx support for this query? :D

As an aside to this, I noticed that when I go the any subsequent pages of search results, it takes some time for them to appear, as if it's repeating the search. I also couldn't open any conversations while this query is taking place (not sure if this is also affecting other users). This is making the search rather unwieldy for me to use. :(
