Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
gogoblender Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I'm not sure if IPS has already done this but for my own license it hasn't been done. Would it be possible to grant Standard License customer's an extension from a certain point? Due to the extension. From a financial perspective the extension of IPB3's release date could be quite a hit. Due to it's possible arrival date beyond May 13th, when my Standard License expires, I may end up paying twice in order to have the new update... $60 instead of $30. I was lead to believe by an official rep of IPS that IPB3 would be released at the end of 2008 which prompted me to buy a Standard License on November 13th, 2008. I did realize that IPB3 was at risk of being released past December 2008 but given the talk at the time it seemed certain that it would release before my 6 month Standard License. As for a direct reference that caused me to believe IPB3 would release before my license expired I think this blog entry sums it up. IP.Board 3.0.0 Status Update: The preview testing and feedback has been going so well that we have decided to reevaluate our release schedule. This will delay our final release until early next year. You can see from the comments there that everyone was impressed as to a 2008 release date. It was actually content before that Blog entry that prompted me to buy but I can't find the original entry. This is a general concern of mine and thought it might be for others as well. It seems just a bit too coincidental that IPB3 could possibly be released very shortly after my license expires... Thanx for your consideration.
bfarber Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I assure you our release schedule has nothing to do with anyone's specific license expiration date. If there are 10 customers expiring on May 1st, there are 10 more expiring on May 2nd - there's no reason for us to base our release schedule on license expiration because they will always occur on a regular basis. Our release schedule is based solely on how much we feel IPB3 is ready to be released. You can watch our bug tracker to get an idea of how close that is, but clearly IPB3 is not ready for "final" status yet. With that said, you'd be best off emailing accounts@invisionpower.com to ask a question like this.
