Copying a single post

For easier moderation, we frequently need to copy a post on the board (usually to merge it with someone elses post and so be able to place updates and stuff. Hard to explain, but we had it on our VBUlletin board as a standard moderation option, got very attached to it, and now on IPB none of us has been able to find this easy function ANYWHERE. Maybe we are just overlooking it ??

Could someone please let me know HOW I can copy a post and either leave it in the same thread or transport it to another thread or a new topic ??
And if it is nog a basic funtion, which I can hardly image, is there a mod for it ??

Thank you in advance.

You can't copy a post but you can move it leaving a link to it in its original location. When reading a post you should see a small box in the top right corner next to the post number. Click it and then scroll down, under the posts is the drop box that starts with merge posts, opening it will let you see the move option. To move it you need to know where you want to put it first.

I know, but that is definitely NOT what I need. I really need to copy posts.

The case is, we had to completely restart our (VBulletin) forum due to serious hacking-attemps. Quite succesfull ones I moght say, presumably by the guy who initially installed and build the board for us. Not even trusting VB anymore, we went looking for new software and endid up with IPB.
Now, most of the content of the old forum was transferred to the new, with, ofcourse, anonymus accounts. In the meantime, most of our users have found the way to the new board, and we would like to reset some of their posts to their name.

Therefor, we used to (now : want to) copy a random post they made, place it in a new thread and replace the text with the original test they wrote on the other board. This is just one of the things we need. We used to do this wih many more moderating and relocating-issues.

We also used it a lot to 'split posts'. If someone was on topic the first half of the post, and off topic the other (a very common thing on a forum), we just duplicated the post, removed the off-topic bit from the original and the on-topic bit from the copy, and then place the copy to another or a new topic. Running a board with mostly woman and an average user of 50 +, this always has been a very crucial feature, as people don;t always remmeber what 'on topic' means.. You can just copy the text as a general account ofcourse, but by copying the posts, the date of the post stayed intact and it would remain in place chronoligically.

So, if it is not a standard function (very, very much to my surprise I must say ) I really need a mod for it. Just copy a post in one thread and replace the copy to another (more relevant) thread. I don't know if there is such a mod, but from all the mods I've seen, I think this is the most usefull and crucial, and if it does not exist already, I really hope it will inspire a programmer and get one very soon....

splitting a topic is a standard feature. You just select the posts to split and then choose split topic from the dropdown.

Copying posts is not a feature at this time.
