ikillbill Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Hi have beeing waiting for this long could you please add a function of "thread COPY"? So, we could easiy copy one thread to another board when we need it thanks Bill
Adriano Faria Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 MOD: http://www.invisionmodding.com/index.php?a...mp;showfile=824 Copy topics from a forum to another.
Jυra Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I don't get why there is a need for such a feature.
henke37 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I know of only one good use for it: pranks. Wait, is that even a good use?
Morrigan Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 It helps if you pin rules in one forum and create a new forum that needs the same rules and you can just choose "Copy to this forum" and then you don't have to "Edit > Copy > Go to the new Forum > New Post > Paste > Post"
AndyF Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 +1 for a built in "Copy this topic" option in the drop down :)
FrostedPopTart Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Yes, copying rules threads to a few forums where it might be needed (such as a parent forum and a few sub forums) is one case which this could be useful in. I give this a +1 on that factor and others mentioned already. Also how about when you might want the topic to apply to more than one forum?
ikillbill Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 sometimes if you see a great article, but it is not announcement, you will want to copy a thread to another forum OR, you could use copy funtion to have a "nice articles collections"
henke37 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Just fake a link topic with manual database manipulation, you know those that are created for moved topics.
FrostedPopTart Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Just fake a link topic with manual database manipulation, you know those that are created for moved topics. Not everyone is as Hypertext PreProcessor and My Structured Query Language - proficient as you.   <_<
FrostedPopTart Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Get a modification then. Not everyone is able to look at Hypertext PreProcessor code and put in more Hypertext PreProcessor code where it should go. It usually ends up where it shouldn't go. Instead of pessimistically and negatively downplaying every suggestion *cough* Michael McCune follower *cough*, try to see the reasons why this should be implemented. :)
Mark Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I don't *really* see a need for this (the pinned topics thing should be done using announcements) but then again, I see no reason not to add it...Not everyone is able to look at Hypertext PreProcessor code and put in more Hypertext PreProcessor code where it should go. peter_anderson Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I agree with this. Most other forums have it, and it works well when making rules, or something you don't want to use the announcement section for.

Yes, I am pessimistic about many suggestions I see, just because I don't think they are valid enough to be added as features in the core product. For example, instead of having a feature that copies threads (and would then need to copy all of their posts, update user post counts, recache forum data, etc.), why not just use the existing feature to create an announcement that does show up in multiple forums? If you want people to be able to reply to these announcements, now that's a valid suggestion.
Cool Surfer Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Just fake a link topic with manual database manipulation, you know those that are created for moved topics. The mod around to copy topics with posts (replies) actually increases the post count, n no of posts also.

spicy brains Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 IMO, it'd be easier, not to mention less messy (no "four places with the same topic info"), to fake a copied topic by modding the moved topic (or, if you prefer, linked topic) code to have the option to sync the "last post by" information to the pointed-to topic. Then there can be one topic, multiple links to it, without needing the duplication of information/conversation/wasted resourcesetc. And, then let linked topics be pinned (where moved topics can't be). Not forcing a synchronized topic titles for linked topics would be great, too, because you may want to have slightly different names.
