Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Cool Surfer Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 It would be nice if there is a special rights feature for main forum admin to login as super admin, and be able to edit all aspects of a post eg when a post is open he shuld be able to edit posters name / id, post date, member title, group, ip address when post was posted,
ehren. Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Why would that be necessary though? That could spark a lot of concerning issues with regards to who actually posted a topic/post. I think being able to edit the post, title and description is all that's needed.
Cool Surfer Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Why would that be necessary though? It is necessary that is why it is asked. That could spark a lot of concerning issues with regards to who actually posted a topic/post.Why should it, and if any concerns I am sure the admin will be able to resolve it.I think being able to edit the post, title and description is all that's needed. Its just ones own imagination that can prevent something good to surface. Billgates once had said there is no need to have anything bigger than 5' 1/2 inch floppy. He thought it was good enough to store any data.
Louis M. Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I don't think it is an issue of coding it, I think its an issue of security and ethics. I think in a community forum it is best not to have those options. If they were there easily then there could be some questions of who said what and started what. On a CMS its a little different.
Digi Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Billgates once had said there is no need to have anything bigger than 5' 1/2 inch floppy. Not only is your quote wrong, but even the suspected "real" quote is fake...http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...t&p=1713159 ^should pose as reference. Thanks! :P

Jaggi Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 well if bill gates pops in and posts a proper reason for having all parts of a post editable then i say ipb should definitely consider it but until then i'm definitely against it and LMarkham is right its a ethics and security issue. -1
Tserenteria Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Technically all aspects of a post are editable, you just have to know your way around the database. On my board the other admin pranked me once and made it appear that I'd made all these retarded posts everywhere (even though he'd actually posted them). Even so, it was in jest, but I don't see a reason why you'd ever find it necessary or appropriate to just do it with your members' topics and posts, or for IPB to make the ability readily available to conniving administrators.

Well to be honest I also find it unethical doing this to ur forum members. But my forum has lakhs of rss bot posts, so admin no1 has 2 lakh posts .... i just want the forum to look a bit busy, with new members, new members posting rather than just one member, same time of posts, as rss bot posting is a recurring event, If you see a few of my previous posts, they are all rss feeds related.
Mark Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 It seems to me on the rare occasion you would need to do this, you could go into the database and do it (if you don't know how to go into the database and do it, you're probably not the kind of person who would want to do this) Normally I don't like disagreeing with a suggestion for the sake of disagreeing, but if I was new to the software and clicked the edit button and saw input boxes for the poster, date, ip address, etc. I'd think "What the hell have I done!? I only wanted to edit my post!"
