Is there any information on changes made between the two versions?
I have alot of mods and skins installed so want to update manually.

Any help please?
Thanks in advance :)

For skins the diff report is in the announcement saying 2.3.4 has been released.
There are no manual instructions, but you could use a difference tool (I use one called FreeDiff) to go through and find all the edits, or, you could look at the changed file lists and reapply edits that affect those files.

By the way, note to staff, are the changed PHP file reports compliant with SVN or CVS, I mean would they work using the updater?

If you mean they should provide manual edits... I'm yet to see a program that does - and I think anyone who wants to go and edit all those files as opposed to reinstalling their mods (which will almost defintatly be less edits) has *way* too much time on their hands.

It's really not that bad. Using a file comparison program like WinMerge allows me to spent at most 15 seconds per changed file (usually less) using keyboard shortcuts. There really aren't too many huge changes between point releases, and they're all picked up by the comparison anyway.

Professor P, CVS and I believe SVN actually provide file changes between the two versions, and I would be suprised if SVN didnt, a couple of releases ago, there were text documents that a program (guessing SVN) wrote, told you what needed to be added or removed.

Yes, those were generated from SVN (though Matt manually edited them to remove some things, like changes to the XML files).

How come you guys haven't had them for the past few point releases? That would make it easier for people whose forums have 473977893 mods (read: a lot); and also people who know what they are doing. :)

I meant, I'm yet to see a web program (like IPB) that releases manual file-edit instructions for upgrades

            1) It takes a lot of time for Matt to pull it and go through it manually (and then when someone tries to run it as a patch and it fails, Matt has to go back and look at which manual edit caused the failure)

            2) Maybe 10 of our customers find any use out of it (out of the thousands of customers we have)

            3) Someone who doesn't know what they are doing will invariably try the patch file and mess something up, then submit a ticket asking why or blaming us for it

Realistically, unless there's only a couple of files changed, it's just not worth it. When a tenth of the files in IPB have been updated, it's easier to just upload the files and reinstall your modifications.

Plus, for those that don't remember this, we don't support file modifications. While we don't spend time discouraging it (and we try to promote members to do what they want), ultimately we can't spend extreme excess amounts of time trying to accomodate modifications. This is one of those areas.

Just chiming in that I really appreciated the diff file included with the 2.3.0 -> 2.3.1 upgrade, it made my job of manually upgrading much easier. It's a pity that you don't do them any more.
