Quote bbcode turned into garbage

I just upgraded to 2.3.1 from 2.2.1 and now, instead of quotes looking like they used to:

Yeah the quote system is screwed
[/quote]

The code now looks like this

Seems like my custom bbcode [hide][/hide] was conflicting somehow. I deleted it and now the quotes appear as they should.
